Attorney Barbara Strauss has maintained a private practice for over twenty-five years dedicated to advocating for men and women coping with divorce, family law disputes or criminal charges. She represents clients in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties.
In her thirty plus years as a lawyer Barbara J. Strauss has gained a well-earned reputation as a smart, conscientious and vigorous litigator with trial skills gained as a criminal prosecutor along with an in-depth knowledge of the law that comes from extensive appellate practice.
Barbara J. Strauss is a former president of the Orange County Bar Association, former president of the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties and has been a lawyer for children since 1990. She also is a well-respected lecturer on topics such as trial practice, complex equitable distribution issues and numerous family court topics.

Harvey C. Kallus has practiced law in New York since his admission to the bar in 1987. After several years as an associate attorney in a busy Newburgh law firm, he opened his private practice in New Windsor in 1993. Specializing in the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law, Mr. Kallus developed a reputation as a determined advocate and a knowledgeable practitioner. In 2015 he merged his firm with Barbara J. Strauss, Esq. to form Strauss & Kallus PLLC in Goshen, N.Y.
Strauss & Kallus employs a deliberate and rational approach to resolve complex family law issues involving equitable distribution of marital assets and debts (including the division of business interests, stock options and retirement assets); custody and visitation disputes; and child and spousal support negotiations. They are skilled negotiators who utilize alternative dispute resolution principles whenever possible.

Andrea L. Dumais is a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, graduating from Rhinebeck High School in Rhinebeck, New York. After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Union College and her juris Doctorate from Pace University School of Law and began her legal career right here in Orange County. Andrea is on the Executive Board of the Orange County Bar Association, and she has been identified as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers.
Andrea has practiced law since 2011 concentrating in the fields of matrimonial, family, and criminal law and she joined Strauss & Kallus in September, 2019 (bringing with her Diane Gross as paralegal). Andrea prides herself in maintaining good client relationships and rapport. She believes that in any case involving families you cannot achieve the level of success necessary without the attorney and client working as a cohesive and trusting team.

Jennifer Lopez is an experienced paralegal with expertise in matrimonial and family law. She is the office and billing manager, and is often the go to person for any client needs. She has worked with Barbara J. Strauss since 2007 and has been with Strauss & Kallus PLLC since its inception. Jennifer completed her paralegal studies at Marist College, and is fluent in Spanish.
Julie Wooley is a paralegal and she has been with Strauss & Kallus since 2012. She previously worked in automotive finance for eleven years. Julie has a bachelor of arts degree from SUNY New Paltz.
Meagan is a paralegal who graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a bachelor’s degree in political science and International studies. She is currently working on her master’s degree in human resource management through Southern New Hampshire University, and has been recently inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success.
Diane Gross has 25 years experience as a legal secretary and paralegal. She has been working with our associate Andrea Dumais for 8 years.
Yamaris has been with Strauss & Kallus since March 2019. She is often the first staff member a new client will speak to when scheduling an appointment or walking in the door. Yamaris worked in the Office of Corporation Counsel as an investigator for the Torts Division for over 10 years. She has a bachelor of arts from John Jay College and she is fluent in Spanish.
