Attorney Barbara Strauss has maintained a private practice for over twenty-five years dedicated to advocating for men and women coping with divorce, family law disputes or criminal charges. She represents clients in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties.
In her thirty plus years as a lawyer Barbara J. Strauss has gained a well-earned reputation as a smart, conscientious and vigorous litigator with trial skills gained as a criminal prosecutor along with an in-depth knowledge of the law that comes from extensive appellate practice.
Barbara J. Strauss is a former president of the Orange County Bar Association, former president of the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties and has been a lawyer for children since 1990. She also is a well-respected lecturer on topics such as trial practice, complex equitable distribution issues and numerous family court topics.

Harvey Kallus has practiced law in New York since his admission to the bar in 1987. After several years as an associate attorney in a busy Newburgh law firm, he opened his private practice in New Windsor in 1993. Specializing in the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law and Real Estate, Mr. Kallus has developed a reputation as a determined advocate and a knowledgeable practitioner. This year he merged his firm with Barbara J. Strauss, Esq. to form a new partnership, Strauss & Kallus PLLC.
The firm of Strauss & Kallus employs a deliberate and rational approach to resolve complex family law issues involving equitable distribution of marital assets and debts (including the division of retirement assets); custody and visitation; and child and spousal support. They are skilled negotiators who utilize alternative dispute resolution principles whenever possible, in an effort to maximize client input and minimize conflict. Active in the Hudson Valley Collaborative Divorce Association, the firm strives to craft custom solutions to meet their clients’ needs. Attorney Richard Mandell is a former Child Support Magistrate and is one of the most highly respected divorce mediators in the state. He has been the prime mover in Orange County with regard to innovative programs for divorce and separating parents for the last thirty years. He started the Dispute Resolution Center in Orange and Sullivan Counties. He wrote statewide training manuals for mediators on custody and visitation issues and he organized the first educational program in Orange County for parents going through custody disputes and then lectured in the PEACE Program and the Parents Apart program since the mid-nineties.

Amanda Tarallo joined the law firm of Strauss & Kallus PLLC in August, 2016 upon her graduation from New York Law School, where she had received a merit-based Global Fellow Scholarship. She has passed the New York State Bar Exam and is awaiting admission. Prior to attending law school, Amanda obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, with High Honors, from the College of Saint Elizabeth.
During law school, Amanda concentrated in the field of family law and completed mediation training in the law school clinical program. She also participated in an externship with Administration for Children Services in New York City where she gained an understanding of neglect and abuse issues in Manhattan Family Court. During her final year of law school Amanda interned with Fersch Petitti, a Manhattan matrimonial law firm gaining familiarity and knowledge in the areas of divorce, domestic violence and child support.
Amanda enjoys being involved in her community and became a volunteer with the Warwick Community Ambulance Service immediately upon moving to Orange County. She has previously volunteered with a battered women’s shelter, her local library, Holy Name Hospital and multiple EMS and Rescue squads.

Jennifer Lopez is an experienced legal secretary and paralegal and she has worked with Barbara J. Strauss since 2007. She is completing a Bachelor’s Degree at Marist College and is fluent in Spanish
Julie Wooley has been with the office since 2012 as our receptionist and secretary. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY New Paltz and worked in automotive finance for eleven years before taking time off to start a family
