As a prosecutor in Orange County, New York, from 1982-1989, Barbara Strauss prosecuted a large number of domestic abuse cases and started the office's Child Sex Abuse Unit. During this time she also taught domestic violence classes to local law enforcement personnel.
A former board member of Safe Homes of Orange County, Barbara Strauss is also certified as a Court-Appointed Law Guardian (attorney for the child) by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. In this capacity she works to protect the rights of children involved in abusive situations. Then, as now, she has worked with mental health professionals to provide counseling to those affected by these matters.
