Collaborative law is another option. With this approach, both parties — each with an attorney trained in collaborative law — try to resolve issues through a series of four-person meetings rather than through litigation. However if it is necessary to go to court to protect your rights or to respond to a petition already filed, Barbara Strauss will be a strong advocate on your behalf. Ms. Strauss has a well-earned reputation as a smart, conscientious and vigorous litigator with trial skills gained as a criminal prosecutor along with the in-depth knowledge of the law that comes from extensive appellate experience.
Our collaborative law practice draws upon the skills and knowledge of experienced collaborative law attorney Richard Mandell. Richard specializes in mediation and is also a Collaborative Law Attorney.
Mr. Mandell, and respected New York divorce lawyer Carla Wise share this office location with our firm and provide Ms. Strauss with additional knowledge and a new perspective to supplement her own 27 years of experience. Carla is also a Collaborative Law Attorney and is also an experienced attorney in Family Court and Supreme Court specializing in divorce, custody, support and other family law matters.

An eight-year veteran of the Orange County D.A.'s Office and former Senior Assistant District Attorney — Barbara Strauss has a thorough knowledge of New York criminal law, and litigation experience with criminal charges ranging from driving while intoxicated and possession of controlled substances, to sexual assault and murder. Our Appellate Practice
Barbara J. Strauss is one of the few trial lawyers in this part of New York with a significant appellate practice. Ms. Strauss has filed nearly 200 criminal, family law and various other civil appeals, and she has argued cases in the Second and Third Departments of the Appellate Division, in the New York Court of Appeals, and in the federal appellate courts of New York as well.
